The chair and the heater are one piece. There is no heat pad; it is part of the chair so you do not need to plug in 2 different devices. Just plug in the chair and you're good to go.

Yes, it's perfect to keep warm. You can turn on the heat therapy, put it in zero gravity position, and watch your favorite show. It's great for that.
